چکیده

In real-time control system, output jitter of a task is important when feedback control loops are implemented as execution of periodic tasks. Output jitter refers to the variation of response time of a periodic task. For the stability of the control system, output jitter should be reduced. This paper aims to reduce the output jitter of real-time tasks under EDF scheduling. The proposed scheme derives a linear program from execution times and periods of given tasks. To this end, this paper devises an objective function of linear program which reduces the output jitter and derives the constraints of linear program from the schedulability condition of EDF scheduling. The simulation measures the maximum and mean output jitter and relative output jitter to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. The simulation results show that the output jitter is reduced by 4-12% on average.

Jitter Control in On-Line Scheduling of Dependent Real-Time Tasks

A typical characteristic of real-time systems is concurrent processing of tasks under strict timing requirements. These timing requirements may impose not only direct constraints, such as deadlines, but also indirect timing constraints in terms of inter–task dependencies. However, scheduling policies which can deal with some of these constraints effectively are limited, especially for the on-li...

Optimized Deadline Assignment and Schedulability Analysis for Distributed Real-Time Systems with Local EDF Scheduling

The assignment of scheduling parameters under the Earliest Deadline First (EDF) scheduling policy is trivial in single processor systems because deadlines are used directly. However, it is still difficult to find a feasible deadline assignment for EDF distributed systems when the utilization levels of the CPUs and communication networks are pushed near to their limits. Most distributed applicat...

THESIS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Enhancing the Performance of Distributed Real-time Systems

Advanced embedded systems can consist of many sensors, actuators and processors that are deployed on one or several boards, while having a demand of interacting with each other and sharing resources. Communication between different components usually has strict timing constraints. There is thus a strong need to provide solutions for time critical communication. This thesis focuses on both the s...

Fault Tolerance in Real Time Multiprocessors - Embedded Systems

All real time tasks which are termed as critical tasks by nature have to complete its execution before its deadline, even in presence of faults. The most popularly used real time task assignment algorithms are First Fit (FF), Best Fit (BF), Bin Packing (BP).The common task scheduling algorithms are Rate Monotonic (RM), Earliest Deadline First (EDF) etc.All the current approaches deal with eithe...
